Curriculum Updates Papers came home today!
Reading: We are reading and discussing Bob. We are working on comprehension questions, vocabulary, and inferences with evidence. Ask your daughter to give you a brief summary of the story so far. We are also devoting time to read about December and holiday-themed books on EPIC. We are analyzing the vocabulary and examples of author techniques.
Math: This section of our unit is focused on division. We are using number bonds to explore what is "happening" to the numbers when we divide. Next week, we will begin a review of 2 by 2 digit multiplication to solve a case.... Who stole the marshmallows?? Students will work in pairs and small groups to support each other through the clues and computations.
Language Arts: We began a holiday/December themed narrative story. We have planned out the character(s), setting, mood, and problem. Next, we will add the events and climax of the story. This will be a progressive story. That means other students will add on to what was started. The original author will then get to wrap up their story with a nice resolution.
Social Studies: Students are using non-fiction research and their notes to create a newsletter that will best demonstrate the knowledge and information they have gathered about westward expansion of the United States in the 1800s. The girls chose four topics to explain in the newsletter. Next week, we will gather the needed information and research to make sure we fully explain those topics.
Reminders and Important Dates:
Students in grades 2-4 will participate in the performance. Their families are welcome to join us at St. Stephen’s on Friday, December 20; 9:30-10:30 (This is a change from 9-10)
Following the Gift Service, girls will return to their classrooms for dismissal
