4/25 Weekly Update

Grandparent/Special Friend Day was a success!
Some photos from the day are in our photo folder.

Please check in with your daughter about spelling and Wordly Wise homework. While most of the girls are completing work during study hall, I am noticing a slip in performance on the assessments. I have encouraged the girls to make flash cards or do extra practice in the evenings if they feel they need more time with the words. Thank you for your support!

Curriculum Updates
Reading: We finished our novel, Number the Stars. We are finishing the body posters for our character analysis of Annemarie. The girls also worked on a "Chapter 18" story where they were able to write the rest of the story....Did Annemarie and Ellen meet up again? What did they do? Did Ellen get her necklace? They enjoyed this creative writing!

Math: We continue to work on equivalent fractions, simplifying, and comparing fractions.  We completed a pixel art assignment that practiced adding and subtracting fractions.

Language Arts: This week, we practiced the Grandparent/Special Friend Day poem presentation. We also prepared our science element posters and made bookmarks for our guests.

Social Studies: We have started the Civil War museum exhibit project. At this stage, the girls are researching to gather information on their assigned topic.

Curriculum Updates     The paper folders came home today!

Reading: We finished our novel,  Number the Stars. We are working on a "body poster" for the main character, Annemarie. These will analyze her traits, inner thoughts, and challenges. The posters will be on display for a bit and then come home.

Math: We assessed improper fractions and the conversion to mixed numbers. Next, we will work on equivalent fractions, simplifying, and comparing fractions.

Language Arts: This week, we did more intensive review of what proper editing and revising entails. The girls helped me create an anchor chart to use when we review our papers and help our peers improve their written work. We put this to use in previously written paragraphs.

Social Studies: We finished taking notes from the historical fiction novel Ranger: Long Road to Freedom. We will begin a Civil War project "museum exhibit".
